The story
Two titles in the window when the king was away
Founded in 1967, the Rockets found greatness through Hakeem Olajuwon, the most skilled center the game produced. The Dream Shake was unguardable.
Houston won back-to-back titles in 1994 and 1995, in the two years Michael Jordan was off playing baseball. Critics called it a gap; Rockets fans call it earned, with two Finals sweeps to prove it.
The Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady years brought stars but little playoff luck. The James Harden era brought analytics and 60-win seasons but no banner. A young rebuild now holds the future.
The franchise reached its first Finals in 1981, and the Twin Towers era with Hakeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson made the 1986 Finals before the championship window truly opened.
