The story
The Block, the Shot, and the city's first crown
Founded in 1970, Cleveland's story is tied to one man twice over. LeBron James arrived in 2003, left in 2010 in The Decision that broke the city's heart, and came home in 2014 with a promise.
He kept it in 2016. Down 3-1 to the 73-win Warriors, the Cavs became the only team ever to erase that Finals deficit. The Block by LeBron and The Shot by Kyrie Irving ended a 52-year title drought for the whole city.
After LeBron left again, the Cavs rebuilt around a young, defensive-minded core. The 2016 banner hangs as proof it can be done.
Before LeBron there was heartbreak: Michael Jordan's 1989 shot over Craig Ehlo, The Shot that defined the franchise's hard-luck early decades.
