The story
Mile-high air and a big man who sees everything
The Nuggets started in the ABA in 1967 and brought run-and-gun basketball to the mountains. For decades they were entertaining and titleless, through the Alex English years and the Iverson and Carmelo Anthony era that never broke through.
Everything changed with Nikola Jokic, a second-round pick who became a back-to-back MVP and the best passing big man the game has seen.
In 2023 Jokic delivered the first championship in franchise history. The thin mountain air has always given Denver a home edge. Now it has a banner to match.
The 1980s teams with Alex English and Dan Issel were among the highest-scoring in league history, a joy to watch and impossible to stop, but never built for deep playoff defence.

You waited a long time, and the wait was worth a genius in a Nuggets jersey. Denver basketball is finally champion basketball.
