The dynasty and the reset.
Eight years in a row, one team owned Formula 1. Then the rules changed and the magic stopped.
Mercedes has deep roots, going back to the Silver Arrows of the 1950s. The modern works team grew out of Brawn GP, which Mercedes bought in 2010. What followed was the most dominant run the sport has seen. From 2014 to 2021 Mercedes won eight straight Constructors titles. Lewis Hamilton took six of his seven crowns in those years.
Then F1 brought in new ground-effect rules for 2022 and the wins dried up. The car bounced, the form dipped, and Hamilton left for Ferrari at the end of 2024. Toto Wolff rebuilt around George Russell and a teenager, Kimi Antonelli. Antonelli scored 150 points as a rookie in 2025, the most ever under the current system, and Mercedes climbed back to second in the Constructors.
Watching Antonelli is like watching the start of something. He is Italian, he is 19, and he already has podiums. Put him next to Russell, a proven race winner, and Mercedes feels young and dangerous again.
Mercedes were a best-of-the-rest pick in 2025, not a banker for wins. For 2026, watch how the new engine rules land, since Mercedes builds its own power unit. If their engine is strong, their odds for wins will shorten fast. Wait for early-season form before committing.
