Canada's first WNBA team tips off
The Tempo are the WNBA's first team based outside the United States, owned by Larry Tanenbaum's Kilmer Sports Ventures. They tipped off their first season in May 2026 in the team colours Borealis Blue and Tempo Bordeaux.
Toronto did not arrive quietly. The club hired Sandy Brondello, who coached the New York Liberty to the 2024 title, as its first head coach, and Monica Wright Rogers as general manager. That is a serious front office for a first-year team.
Backed by one of the biggest sports markets in North America, the Tempo carry real expectations for a club still playing its opening season.
You finally have a home team. Canada waited a long time for top-flight women's basketball, and the Tempo are the answer.
There is little form to read yet, so the early lines are guesswork. First-year teams often firm up late in close games as the roster gels, so the live markets read better than the openers.
