For the first time in years, Formula 1 has a brand-new name on the grid, and it is American.
Cadillac joins in 2026 as the sport's 11th team, backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsports. It has no F1 history yet, because its history starts now. The road here was hard. The project began as an Andretti bid that F1 first turned down. It came back, won approval, and set up bases in Indiana, North Carolina and Silverstone. At first it will use Ferrari engines, with a plan to build its own GM power unit by 2029.
To lead the debut, Cadillac picked experience over youth. Valtteri Bottas, a ten-time race winner with Mercedes, and Sergio Perez, a multiple winner with Red Bull, both return to the grid after a year out. Between them they have more than 500 starts and 16 wins. Two drivers with points to prove, in a team with everything to prove.
A new team is rare and exciting. Add an American giant and two hungry veterans who were written off, and you have a proper underdog story from lap one.
New teams almost always start at the back, so avoid win and podium bets. The real markets are to-be-classified, reliability props, and head-to-head between two experienced drivers. Bottas against Perez over a season is the kind of even contest where research pays.
