Argentina's roar returns to the grid.

It had been over 20 years since Argentina had a full-time F1 driver. Franco Colapinto ended the wait.

Colapinto got a surprise call in 2024 to stand in at Williams. He impressed at once, scoring points in only his second race and showing flashes of real speed, though a few heavy crashes showed his rawness too. The performances, and the wave of Argentine support behind him, put him on the map fast.

Alpine signed him for 2025, but it was a hard year in a slow car at the back of the field, with few points to show. Now in 2026 he gets a full season alongside Pierre Gasly to prove the early promise was real. The hopes of a whole nation travel with him to every race. Argentina has not had a following like this in F1 since the days of Carlos Reutemann.

For the fans

The Argentine fans bring colour and noise wherever he races. Colapinto is young, quick, and carries a whole country's hopes. That is a story worth following.

Punter's angle

A second-year driver in a weak car is a risky bet. Expect ups and downs. His best markets are beat-teammate-Gasly long shots and the odd points prop when the Alpine has a good weekend. Keep stakes small until he strings together clean races.

Colapinto scored his maiden points finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, repeating this feat in the United States. He joined Alpine as a reserve driver for 2025 and was promoted after six Grands Prix to replace Jack Doohan.
