MONZA 2020

The shock winner who keeps fighting.

Pierre Gasly knows the highest high and a brutal low, sometimes in the same year.

Gasly came up through the Red Bull system and won the GP2 title. Red Bull promoted him in 2019, but it went badly and they demoted him mid-season. He could have sulked. Instead, back at the junior team, he produced one of the great fairytale wins at Monza in 2020, holding off the field to take a stunning victory.

He added more podiums and a reputation as a tough racer, then moved to Alpine to lead his home French team. The car has often let him down, with Alpine sliding toward the back of the grid. For 2026 he leads the line again, this time with rookie Franco Colapinto, trying to drag Alpine back up the order.

For the fans

Gasly's Monza win is one of the best feel-good stories of the modern era. He races with emotion and never gives up on a bad day.

Punter's angle

At Alpine, Gasly is a lower-midfield bet, so wins are off the table unless chaos strikes. His value is in beat-teammate markets against a rookie and in long-shot points props at tracks that suit the car. His Monza history is a reminder that one wild result a season is possible.
