WORLD CHAMPION

The long wait for a first win.

Lando Norris took 110 races to win once. Then he won a World Championship.

Norris joined McLaren in 2019 and quickly became a fan favourite for his speed and his easy humour online. But the wins would not come. He racked up more than 20 podiums while rivals took the top step. People began to ask if he could close the deal.

He answered in style. His first win came at Miami in 2024. In 2025 he led McLaren's title charge and, in a tense final race in Abu Dhabi, held off Max Verstappen by two points to become World Champion. It was McLaren's first Drivers title since 2008. The boy who waited became the man who delivered. He has spent his whole F1 career in papaya, a rare loyalty in the modern paddock.

For the fans

Norris is the relatable champion. He talks openly about nerves and bad days, he games online with fans, and he wears his feelings on his sleeve. His 2025 title felt earned, not handed over.

Punter's angle

As reigning champion in a strong car, Norris will be short-priced for wins. The catch is teammate Oscar Piastri, who can beat him on any given Sunday. Head-to-head qualifying and race markets between the two often hold more value than backing Norris alone.

BIOGRAPHY

In their own words.

Lando Norris (born 13 November 1999) is a British racing driver currently competing in Formula 1 for McLaren. He won the MSA Formula championship in 2015, and the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in 2016. He also received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award that year. He subsequently won the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He is a member of the McLaren young driver programme, and will drive for McLaren for the 2019 Formula One World Championship. After initially developing an interest in motorcycle racing, Norris' attention switched from two wheels to four after his father took him and his brother to watch a round of the Super 1 National Kart Championships at his local kart track. He started his racing career at the age of seven when he claimed pole position at his first national event. In 2013, Norris won in the World Karting Championships held in Bahrain, the WSK Euro Series and the CIK-FIA European and CIK-FIA Supercup titles. The following year he won the CIK-FIA KF World Championship, thereby making him the youngest karting world championship winner. On 3 September 2018, Norris was announced to drive for McLaren for the 2019 Formula One World Championship, partnering Carlos Sainz Jr.
