Back on top.
For 26 years McLaren kept the trophies in a glass case and waited.
Bruce McLaren, a driver from New Zealand, started the team in 1963. He died testing one of his own cars in 1970, but the team kept his name and his colours. The 1980s and 1990s were golden. Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost fought like enemies in the same garage. Mika Hakkinen beat Schumacher twice. Then came the drought.
After Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 title, McLaren did not win another Drivers crown for a long time. The cars slipped down the order. New bosses Zak Brown and Andrea Stella rebuilt the team from Woking, brick by brick. In 2024 they won the Constructors title again. In 2025 they did the double, and Lando Norris held off Max Verstappen by two points to take his first World Championship.
This is the comeback made real. If you stuck with McLaren through the bad years, 2025 was the payoff. Norris and Oscar Piastri are young, fast, and signed up for years to come.
McLaren go into 2026 as favourites, which means short prices. The danger for a punter is the two drivers taking points off each other. When teammates are this close, winning margin and head-to-head markets can offer more value than backing the team outright.
