Baccarat 2026: 98.94% RTP Banker Bet, Strategy and SA Casinos

iGR/Games/Baccarat

Baccarat, where the Banker bet pays you to do nothing

Baccarat is the second best RTP table game in the casino. Banker pays 98.94 percent. Player pays 98.76 percent. Tie is a trap. Tables run from R5 minimum, no decisions to memorise, the dealer plays it for you.

The maths on every baccarat table, ranked

Every baccarat round, you pick from Banker, Player or Tie. The payouts have not changed in fifty years and neither has our advice. The numbers below are the long-run truth.

BankerBest bet on the table
98.94%
House edge
1.06%
Pays
1:1 minus 5% commission

Banker wins slightly more often than Player because of the third card rule. The 5% commission is the casino's tax for letting you bet that side. Even after the commission, Banker stays the lowest house edge bet on a baccarat table.

Pays
1:1, no commission

Slightly worse than Banker, but you skip the 5% commission so the maths is easier to follow at the table. A reasonable backup if you do not want to track commission round to round.

Pays
8:1 (some tables 9:1)

Worse than the worst bet on American roulette. The 8:1 payout is set up to look tempting, but the maths is brutal. The Tie bet is a trap.

Two hands, three bets, one winner

Two hands are dealt: Player and Banker. You bet on which hand wins, or on a Tie. Card values: Ace = 1, two to nine count at face value, ten and the picture cards count as zero.

The hand closest to a total of 9 wins. If a total goes over 9, drop the tens digit, so 15 becomes 5. A third card may be drawn under the third card rule. The dealer follows it automatically, you do not decide.

Banker wins slightly more often than Player because of the third card rule. The 5% commission is the casino's tax for letting you bet that side. Even after the commission, Banker stays the lowest house edge bet on a baccarat table.

Simplest strategy that works

Always bet Banker, that is the whole strategy

The whole system

Bet Banker every hand, don't overthink it

Banker has the lowest house edge, so over a long session, you lose the least money. Some players follow the shoe by backing whichever hand has been winning lately. That is variance management, not a system that beats the maths. Most online live baccarat tables reshuffle every six to eight decks deep, so the shoe has no memory worth tracking. Avoid every side bet you see on the table. Side bets are how the game pays for the dealer's hand. Stick to Banker.

Bankroll basics

Even the best baccarat bet loses 49 hands in 100

Variance is the actual opponent. The boring advice is what separates people who walk away with money from people who chase losses.

1–3%

Per hand, of your bankroll

Never stake more than one to three percent of your bankroll on a single hand. At R5 minimum tables, that is plenty of room.

Skip the betting systems

Martingale doubles your stake after each loss until you win. The math sounds clever but in practice you hit the table cap or run out of bankroll long before you recover.

Fibonacci, Paroli, Labouchere are all dressed up the same way. None of them change Banker's 1.06% house edge.

Baccarat FAQ

The questions every SA player asks

Banker. The RTP is 98.94%, the lowest house edge among the three main bets. Always bet Banker for the best long-run odds.
Yes. Even after the 5% commission, Banker still has a 1.06% house edge versus Player’s 1.24%. The commission is the price for the better odds and it stays worth it.
No. The Tie bet has a 14.36% house edge on the standard 8:1 payout. That is worse than the worst bet on American roulette. Skip Tie completely.
Speed Baccarat runs at about 27 seconds per round. Standard live baccarat is 50 to 60 seconds. RNG baccarat is 5 to 10 seconds.
Most SA operators run live baccarat from R5 to R10 minimum. RNG baccarat starts at R1. VIP baccarat tables go from R100 minimum and up.
Tradition more than maths. Bead Plate, Big Road and Small Road grids show the pattern of recent results. Players use them to follow streaks or bet against patterns. The grids do not change the underlying probabilities. Pure entertainment.
No. Lucky Six, Player Pair, Banker Pair and Either Pair all carry house edges from 4% to 11%. Stick to the main Banker bet. Side bets exist to fund the dealer’s wage.
