Online poker for SA, in plain English.
Live Casino Hold’em, Three Card Poker, Caribbean Stud and video poker. RTP across each format, where to play, and the bankroll basics for an honest session.
Best RTP poker · Picked for SA
Online poker at SA casinos is mostly house banked poker, not peer to peer cash games. Casino Hold’em, Three Card Poker and Caribbean Stud sit on live tables next to roulette and blackjack. Video poker runs in the slots section. RTP ranges from 96 percent on the worst video poker to 99.5 percent on full pay Jacks or Better played with strategy.
Player vs player Texas Hold’em rooms (PokerStars style) are not licensed for SA play. The poker you find on a licensed SA casino is the dealer banked kind. This page covers what is on offer, the RTP per format, the studios that run the tables, and where to play. For the wider casino floor, see live dealer and blackjack.
What poker looks like at an SA online casino
House banked live tables run by Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live and Playtech. Video poker machines in the slots lobby from NetEnt, IGT, Microgaming and Playtech. Both are you against the casino, never you against other players.
House banked live tables
Casino Hold’em, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker and Caribbean Stud. Streamed from a studio, dealer banks every round. You play against the house, not the table.
Video poker machines
Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Bonus Poker, Joker Poker. RNG-driven, you against the pay table. Strategy beats live poker RTP if you pick the right machine.
If you want peer to peer Texas Hold’em with tournaments and ring games, you need an international site outside SA licensing. We do not review those because they cannot accept SA depositors with full FICA protection.
Live poker formats and RTP
Bars scaled 88% to 100%. Casino Hold’em is the best live pick on RTP. Skip the side bets. Caribbean Stud is the worst of the four common formats.
Video poker has the best RTP poker on SA sites
A full pay Jacks or Better machine has a 99.54 percent RTP with perfect strategy. That beats blackjack. The catch: full pay machines are rare and pay schedules vary by operator. Check the on-screen pay table before you sit down.
The 9 for 6 schedule
Full pay Jacks or Better pays nine coins on a full house and six coins on a flush. Short pay swaps these out and hides a much worse RTP behind the same logo.

How to play Casino Hold’em
Fold low cards. Call on any pair, an Ace high, or any flush or straight draw on the flop. The maths is simple, the round is fast, and the RTP holds at 97.84 percent.
Place the Ante
Minimum R5 on most SA tables. This is your seat at the round.
Deal
Two cards face up to you, two face down to the dealer. The flop, three community cards, lands face up.
Call or Fold
Call doubles your Ante and keeps you in. Fold loses the Ante and ends the round.
Reveal
Dealer turns their cards and the last two community cards. Best five-card hand from your two plus the five board wins.
Dealer must qualify
Pair of fours or higher. If they don’t qualify, Ante pays even money and the Call pushes. If they qualify and you win, both bets pay.
Three tiers, one rule: a Call doubles the round
House banked poker has wider variance than blackjack or baccarat because the round size doubles on a Call. A R5 Ante becomes a R15 round once the Call lands. Plan stake sizes accordingly.
