Japan twice peg back the Dutch
Japan showed real fight to draw 2-2 with the Netherlands on 14/06/2026. Virgil van Dijk headed the Dutch in front just after half time. Keito Nakamura levelled within six minutes. Crysencio Summerville put the Netherlands back ahead on 64 minutes, but Japan would not give in.
The equaliser came late. Daichi Kamada struck in the 89th minute to make it 2-2. It was a fair reward for a side that kept coming back.
The point left both teams on one in Group F, with Sweden setting the pace. The Netherlands will be frustrated to have led twice and won nothing. Japan will take heart from how they hung in.
